Typical mistakes in CVs written by non-native speakers

In the CV:

  • mere translation - obviously not written by a native speaker
  • poor writing style and grammatical mistakes
  • weak structure - not marketing the candidate to convince a potential employer that he/she should be invited to an interview.

In the Personal Profile:

  • missing entirely
  • fails to emphasise the things that are crucial for the job the person is seeking
  • obvious use of  a template with empty phrases

In the Cover letter:

  • underestimated – this is a crucial part of every application
  • doesn’t emphasise the candidate’s key skills and experience
  • not tailored for the specific position being applied for
  • obvious use of a template
  • grammatical mistakes, the wrong style or tone
